- Commitment to a movement practice
- Release built-up tension
- Self-expression, exploration and play
The series blends guided improvisational dance, exploratory movement, yoga, and the voice. It is a mixture of guided and free movement. No phones, No shoes, & nothing goes online. *Limited Spots available.
Who is this for?
This series was created for everyday people looking for an inviting space to dance, move their bodies and commit to weekly movement. This is not a dance class and no prior dance experience is necessary. (This is not therapy. This course was created for anybody looking for a more holistic way of dealing with your mind body and spirit)
Who am I?
Hello! My name is Steph. I am a dance therapist, yoga instructor, and musician and facilitate dance movement workshops that explore how to increase joy and release tension in the body through movement exploration.
Tension in the body feeds tension in the mind.
Space in the body creates space in the mind.
Every culture on earth has cultivated movement and dance practices. There is a good reason for that. Just as our house collects dust, so do our muscles and bones. This series offers a way to deal with accumulated tension through curiosity, exploration, and playful movement.

Do I need to be able to dance?+
NO! This series was created for everyday people looking to move their bodies. This is not a dance class - it is guided AND improvisational movement - with inspiration from yoga, gaga, contemporary dance, 5 rhythms, and all forms of social dance and folk dance. It is a varied practice that is accessible to EVERYBODY. I have a firm belief that if you can move you can dance. Anthropology confirms that dance has been found in every single culture on earth since the beginning of time: humans are designed to move. The idea that some people “can” dance and others cannot is based on the idea that dance is an art form aimed at perfection of the outside shape. This class is not about form and shape and right and wrong. It is about moving from your internal sensations outward. There is no mirror. There is no right way.
Why a series and not just drop-in classes?+
Many of us know that weekly (and ideally daily) movement is good for us - good for our mental and physical health, but it can still be difficult to move your body after a long day of work. It’s easier to stay home. However, by signing up for an 8-week series you are committing to 8-weeks of the movement your mind and body crave. You are cultivating a habit and a practice. When our mind looks for a way to stay on the couch, an 8-week series helps you push through.
What is embodiment and what are the benefits of becoming more “in touch?”+
To be embodied means building body awareness. Increase body awareness helps you become more empowered and in-touch in all areas of your life. It helps you learn to self-regulate, it helps you tap into your needs, and it helps orient you toward what your really want in life. Developing body awareness is a practice, something cultivated over time. When we are not in touch with our embodied experience we may not feel pain, but as Brené Brown so eloquently explains, “you cannot selectively numb emotions - when you numb pain you also numb joy.”
How do I know if I am not embodied?+
This is only something that you can know. It is the sense that you feel like your body is something you inhabit as opposed to something you “carry around.” Embodiment is being in touch with your gut feeling, with your sense of hunger and pleasure and tiredness. It is your mental connection to your physical sensations. It is being aware that some people drain you and others give you energy. It is feeling pain but also pleasure - having the awareness and capacity for both - as opposed to frozen or numb or confused.
